Day 15: On the False Allure of Effort
Summary: Why do we often expect worthwhile tasks to require hard work? Do we sometimes avoid doing something meaningful because we expect it to be difficult? Burkeman says that sometimes we just need to get out of our way and allow things to unfold. He suggests that we ask the question: What if it were easy?
I’m a bit of an expert in getting in my own way and often assume things to be more difficult than they turn out to be.
Homework: I’m anticipating several challenging situations soon. I’m going to try to assume they’re easy.
